 Big Island 2020

We spent 6 weeks in July and August 2020 at Mama Papai.  Two weeks of quarantine was followed by 4 weeks of school.  It was a good place for both.  We did make time to get out....for walks each day and for a few day trips or half day trips.  We were most enchanted by the Big Island.  The mild climate, stunning landscapes, and exotic fruit feasts made each day wonderful.

In the bushes outside the post office.   Peace, Tic-Tac-Toe, and eradicating invasive species go hand in hand.  It is interesting to note how these leaves make a durable writing surface.

Tourism while Shopping On our way to do the grocery shopping at INA Market, we detoured a few minutes to see some Mughal tombs, interesting for their location in a populous neighborhood, where apartments buildings now surround them.  It's wonderful to see that such structures are valued; indeed, they might have been torn down for their valuable building materials.  What purpose they serve the people of these neighborhoods, we did not ask.  Next time. The Chote Khan tombs are largely unrestored.  The grave markers are heavily weathered from more than 500???? years of time.  Some areas of the outer wall seem minimally restored, but the interior walls and ceilings have lost most of their plaster and paint. Red sandstone carving withstands weathering comparatively well.  Unrestored

Monsoon in New Delhi The monsoon is a season in India.  The term monsoon refers to a seasonal pressure system that is associated with dry winters and wet summers.  See below 2019 and 2018 images and videos for clarification. 2019 Update--October 3 The rains associated with the monsoon continue to drench Delhi every few days.  This is good for the water table but flooding in some areas has been devastating.  The following videos show a recent thunderstorm that lasted for more than an hour. Sudden onset of rain.  As I exited our building to walk Holly, raindrops started to fall.  The video above is taken about 60 seconds later, after we had crossed the street.  All of about 50 feet. This video shows the frequency of lightning in this thunderstorm.  The lightning went on like this for more than 30 minutes.  This video is taken from inside our terrace space, screened in against mosquitoes.
